Phuket Elephant Sanctuary Eco Tour

Pioneering ethical elephant tourism on the stunning island of Phuket. Phuket Elephant Sanctuary (PES) offers a retirement home for sick, injured, tired or old elephants who have previously worked hard for tourism entertainment or in the logging industry.

Feed, walk with, and observe elephants as they roam throughout the PES, socialise and bathe in our huge fresh water lagoons, and cover themselves in lovely thick mud.  Transform your world as you step into the tranquility of sanctuary life amidst the beautiful forest bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park.

Meet the Elephants:
Madee is 60 years old and she is the epitome of a gentle giant. She is calm, wise, gentle and protective. Madee spent most of her life in Narathiwat province near the Thai/Malay border working a hard life in the logging industry. In 2009, Madee was sold and relocated to Phuket. A saddle was put on her back and she then began giving rides to tourists. However, on Saturday 20th August 2016, Madee's life changed for good. She took her first giant steps into her new forest home, where she is now enjoying her sunset years roaming free and covering herself from head to toe in lovely thick mud!

Kannika is 32 years old and has lived in Phuket since she was 10 years old. She was transported from Surin Province in North East Thailand and arrived in Phuket where she was put to work as a begging elephant along the beaches and at hotels and resorts. In 2007, Kannika was sold to Mr. Todtane, the former camp owner and now the Founder of PES, a saddle was put on her back and she give rides to holiday makers.  Kannika has gone through a radical transformation since her arrival to PES. When she stepped off the truck at our sanctuary, she was initially very nervous and bewildered at the huge green world in front of her.  With patience and kindness, and with all the time in the world to adjust, she has now completely settled into her new home.

Geow Ta (Darling), the 3rd elephant, has arrived at PES on December 8, 2016. She is a beautiful elephant who is in her early 50’s and sadly completely blind in both eyes. Her name is Geow Ta, meaning little darling and she has been giving rides in Phuket for the last 2 years having spent her previous years logging in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, Southern Thailand.

Phuket Elephant Sanctuary Half Day Tour
Enjoy a Morning with the Elephants at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary; a natural home and sanctuary for elephants, dogs, and other wildlife in the surrounding forest. Your visit starts with a picturesque drive down a village lane into the grounds of our sanctuary to our Tree Top Reception and Observation Platform.

You will meet elephants, learn who they are, and why they need to be protected. PES offers guests the opportunity to feed and enjoy a leisurely walk with the elephants. One of the key focuses (and a thoroughly captivating activity) is to observe the elephants as they go about their day; roaming, foraging, bathing, and playing in one of our three huge lagoons; splashing and rolling in the mud to their hearts content!

Your visit helps to support elephants and future rescues, PES project and work, and offers an invaluable opportunity to support ethical elephant tourism, elephant welfare, and conservation.

Sanctuary visits are all about spending time with the elephants. They do not adhere to a strict schedule because the best way to make the most of your time is to relax, observe, and be in 'elephant time!'
